The hearing in the case against KaosGL.org Editor-in-Chief Yıldız Tar, who is being prosecuted as part of an investigation targeting the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), was held today before the 17th High Criminal Court of Ankara. Tar was unable to attend the hearing because they had been detained in operations conducted in Ankara ahead of the NATO Summit.

The prosecutor once again did not present an opinion on the merits of the case. The court also declined to lift the judicial control measures and the travel ban imposed on Tar, and adjourned the trial until November 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.

What happened at previous hearings?

The first hearing in the case against Yıldız Tar, who is being prosecuted as part of the HDK investigation, was held on October 13, 2025. The hearing was monitored by numerous international representatives, members of parliament, journalists, and human rights organizations.

In their defense, Tar described their journalistic activities and stated that the accusations against them were based on phone records dating back 12–13 years. They criticized being prosecuted for “membership in a terrorist organization” on the basis of those records. Recalling court rulings stating that the HDK is not a terrorist organization, Tar argued that their news reporting and fieldwork had been criminalized and requested acquittal.

Their lawyers, meanwhile, argued that the indictment was unlawful, emphasizing that the wiretap records included in the case file had previously been destroyed and that there was no concrete evidence to support the charges.
