Mabel Matiz, who was subjected to a homophobic social media backlash and had his song Perperişan censored, now faces a criminal complaint filed by the Ministry of Interior. The reason: Obscenity!
Mabel Matiz’s song Perperişan was targeted through complaints submitted via CİMER; the Ministry of Family and Social Services requested an access ban on the song.
In a statement, the Ministry claimed that “the content of the song could harm the family institution, negatively affect the mental development of children and young people, disrupt public order, and cause public outrage.” Following the Ministry’s request, the song was blocked from access.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior filed a criminal complaint against Matiz with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office under Article 226 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). The relevant article, listed under the heading “Crimes Against Public Morality,” regulates the offense of “obscenity.”
