The ministry submitted a petition to the Ankara Criminal Court of Peace, claiming that the song could harm the family institution.

Turkish pop artist Mabel Matiz’s song Perperişan has been targeted following complaints filed through CİMER (the Presidential Communication Center). The Ministry of Family and Social Services has requested an access ban on the song.
The Ministry claimed that “the content of the song could harm the family institution, negatively affect the mental development of children and young people, disrupt public order, and cause public outrage.”
The petition submitted to the Ankara Criminal Court of Peace noted that citizens had complained through CİMER, alleging that the lyrics were “contrary to the traditions and customs of the Turkish family.” The Ministry requested that the decision be forwarded to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) for enforcement.
The song includes lyrics referencing the queer community, which made it a particular target. Mabel Matiz, who is among the most prominent figures in Turkish pop, has previously been targeted by pro-government media after displaying a rainbow flag during one of his concerts. Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) had also banned the music video for Matiz’s 2022 song Karakol, which carried an LGBTİ+ theme.
