In the promotion of the digital platform tabii, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran and TRT Director-General Mehmet Zahid Sobacı repeatedly targeted LGBTI+ people.
The new season of Turkey’s digital platform tabii was launched at an event held in Istanbul.
Communications Director of the Presidency, Burhanettin Duran, and TRT Director-General Mehmet Zahid Sobacı also spoke at the event, targeting LGBTI+ people.
In his speech, Director Duran stated that they “must produce universal products” and targeted LGBTI+ people with the following remarks:
“We must produce universal products that stand outside a culture that feeds on extremes, tries to normalize perversion, and undermines family values, yet embrace all of humanity. We have this opportunity. It is the tabii world that clearly shows us we have this opportunity and how rich we are.”
Other digital platforms were targeted
TRT Director-General Sobacı, in his speech, claimed that “digital platforms have become the practical field of the degendering agenda,” suggesting that the institution of the family is weakening:
“Viewers are no longer treated as human beings; they have become part of statistics, big data, and global trends. Here, instead of the question ‘What do people value?’ the question ‘What do people like?’ prevails. To put it more clearly, the digital content industry has become, on a global scale, the practical field of a degendering and devaluation agenda. Under such a global imposition, human values are stripped away, the institution of the family is undermined, individuals become isolated, and cultural diversity is destroyed. At this very point, our international digital platform tabii carries a significance that goes far beyond being just a platform.”
Sobacı referred to LGBTI+ people as “perverted ideologies” and targeted them
Sobacı continued his speech by targeting LGBTI+ people, calling them “perverted ideologies.” He said, “We note our objection to perversions that try to destroy our family and society” and reminded that 2025 has been declared the “Year of the Family.” He added:
“With Tabii, we confront the increasingly shallow structures of the global content industry by presenting content that respects our values, avoids violence, obscenity, and corruption, centers the family, and tells our own story in a strong way. In this context, the declaration of 2025 as the 'Year of the Family' in our country gives a special significance to our approach. As President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has emphasized, it is our shared responsibility to protect our children and youth from harmful trends, and our family and societal structure from perverted ideologies. As Turkey’s public broadcaster, we act with the awareness of this responsibility. For this reason, we work with all our strength to promote family-friendly content across both our traditional and digital platforms. We note our objection to perversions that try to destroy our family and society. Our international digital platform Tabii is a valuable reflection of this effort.”
