Repression and restrictions continue in Ankara, Turkey ahead of the NATO Summit, which is set to take place in July. After the Ankara Governor’s Office imposed a 13-day ban on all demonstrations and events across the city, simultaneous raids were conducted at numerous addresses early this morning.

A total of 209 people were detained in the operations, including Kaos GL Editor-in-Chief and journalist Yıldız Tar. Tar had been expected to appear before a judge tomorrow in a trial opened as part of an investigation targeting the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK).

The statement from the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said that, within the scope of investigations into various organizations, arrest warrants were issued for a total of 241 people, of whom 209 were detained. It was noted that no official information has yet been shared regarding the grounds for the operations. It was also reported that a 24-hour restriction on lawyer access has been imposed for those detained.

In the statement, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office said that during operations carried out by the Ankara Police Department and the Ankara Provincial Gendarmerie Command, individuals alleged to be linked to DAESH, TKP/ML, TKİP, MLKP, DHKP/C, DKP/BÖG, THKP/C, and other organizations were taken into custody.
