Journalism award from the PJA to Kaos GL editor Oğulcan Özgenç: “For all LGBTI+ people whose stories remain unfinished” Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The Progressive Journalists Association (PJA) presented its “Successful Journalists of the Year-2025” awards at a ceremony held on April 6 at the Doğan Taşdelen Contemporary Arts Center in Ankara.

KaosGL.org editor Oğulcan Özgenç, received the PJA’s Rafet Genç News Award from Sinan Tartanoğlu, Chair of the Ankara Branch of the Journalists’ Union of Turkey.

Özgenç dedicated the award, which he received for his report titled “Warning from the Ministry of Family to general directorates targeting LGBTI+ people” to all LGBTI+ individuals whose stories remain unfinished, and said:

“Receiving this award from PJA is a great honor for me. At a time when LGBTI+ people are being systematically targeted and vilified, this award is very valuable in terms of making truth and the struggle for human rights visible.

KaosGL.org is a small newsroom. But the weight of the work it does is immense. With two editors and one editor-in-chief, we persistently strive to make the voices of LGBTI+ people, who are being pushed into invisibility, heard.

Dear Yıldız Tar is here; I feel very fortunate to work with them and to have them by my side on this journalistic journey. And of course, even if I cannot name each one individually, I sincerely thank the entire Kaos GL family who are part of this collective effort.

I also cannot go on without mentioning my friends. I am grateful to all of them for supporting one another and standing side by side.

At a time when reporting the news, writing the truth, and bearing witness are each met with increasingly heavy consequences, it is not possible to accept this award without remembering the imprisoned journalists who are not with us today because they were pursuing the news and have been deprived of their freedom.

Finally, this award is for all LGBTI+ people who never give up the struggle for equality and freedom, who place life in the face of hatred, who resist to complete their stories, and whose stories remain unfinished.”
