The first hearing of the trial against Enes Hocaoğulları will take place on September 8: “I hope we create such a crowd, such a riot of colors, that the judge seeing this courtroom will want to shout, ‘OH FREEDOM!’ no matter what the verdict may be...”

LGBTI+ human rights defender Enes Hocaoğulları, who is being held at Sincan No. 2 L-Type Closed Prison, issued a call for his hearing on September 8. Hocaoğulları stated, “It is not just Enes who will stand before the judge; freedom of expression will be on trial.”
The full text of Hocaoğulları’s call is as follows:
“I remember my first entry into the Ankara Courthouse. It was one of who knows how many hearings of the Esat–Eryaman Case. One day, within the labyrinth of pale walls, a colorful and proud group appeared. I was deeply moved by that diversity, by that proud stance…
On September 8, I will enter this building again, this time with my hands handcuffed. I hope to enter a courtroom that is just as diverse and just as dignified.
IT WILL NOT BE JUST ENES FACING THE JUDGE; FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, FREEDOM, WILL BE ON TRIAL!
With this in mind, I invite all of you, and your friends, to attend my hearing.
I hope we create such a crowd, such a riot of colors, that the judge seeing this courtroom will want to shout, “OH FREEDOM!” no matter what the verdict may be…
From Sincan Prison,
Enes Hocaoğulları”
