DEM Party MP Dilan Kunt Ayan to the Ministry of Family: “Hate crimes continue to rise” Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The 2026 budget and final account deliberations of the Ministry of Family and Social Services were held at the Grand National Assembly’s Planning and Budget Commission.

DEM Party Şanlıurfa MP Dilan Kunt Ayan also spoke during the session. Ayan reminded the Commission that 21 billion lira had been allocated in the ministry’s budget under the item “protection and strengthening of the family.” Drawing attention to violence against women and LGBTI+ people, Ayan said:

“Violence is not decreasing. Every passing year, violence in this country continues to rise, and we state clearly: A government that protects perpetrators, encourages impunity, withdraws from the Istanbul Convention, and fails to implement Law No. 6284 is complicit in this violence- this is clear and explicit. Likewise, your Ministry cannot exempt itself from this violence.”

Ayan also emphasized the increase in hate crimes targeting LGBTI+ people, saying:

“LGBTI+ people are being pushed out of society and at the same time criminalized. Hate crimes continue to rise. Not only the right to life, but violations of bodily integrity, harassment, insults, and abuse are real problems LGBTI+ people faced in 2025. Robberies, assaults, violence by neighbors, harassment by neighbors, family violence, stabbings, and attacks with pump-action shotguns are just a few of the acts targeting LGBTI+ people in 2025. And the reason for this is the dehumanizing discourse you spread every day on social media, on TV, and everywhere else, which clearly triggers and fuels this violence. Unless all forms of violence are genuinely addressed, saying ‘zero tolerance’ becomes nothing more than an advertising slogan- nothing else.”
