Call from the Ankara Women’s Platform for November 25: “Under the pretext of protecting the family from harm, LGBTI+ people are being declared enemies” Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

The Ankara Women’s Platform announced the program for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, to be held on Konur Street. Women will gather in front of the Human Rights Monument on Yüksel Street on November 25 and begin their march.

According to a report on Sendika.org, the announcement also criticized the so-called “Year of the Family,” stating:
“This year and the years to come will not be the Year of the Family, but the year of women’s resistance.”

The statement also drew attention to hostility against LGBTI+ people, saying:

“This year, the government has even declared it the ‘Decade of the Family.’ Under the name of the ‘Year of the Family,’ they want to lock us back in our homes, strip us of our rights, exploit our labor, and legitimize male violence through impunity policies. Those who issue orders like ‘have three children, five children’ are in search of cheap labor. While families grow poorer day by day, women are confronted with the many faces of poverty. With the 11th Judicial Package, the pretext of protecting the family from harm is used to label LGBTI+ people as enemies. Policies are proposed that threaten the very existence of LGBTI+ individuals, fueling hatred. As women whom you try to make invisible, we are here, raising our voices: This year and the years to come will not be the Year of the Family, but the year of women’s resistance. Each of us will raise our voices for the right to live an equal and free life; we will be on the streets on November 25!”
