AKP Deputy Chair and Head of Culture and Arts Policies Hüseyin Yayman once again targeted LGBTI+ people.
Speaking at a press conference held at the party headquarters on 5 January, Yayman stated that protecting the family is a matter of “national security” and claimed that global corporations have declared a war on the family:
“Digitalisation is not something that can be resisted. It is a very important concept, and we must certainly highlight its positive aspects and see it as a space for information and a free forum. However, when we look at examples around the world and in Turkey, transnational global companies see themselves as above the legislature, the executive and the judiciary. And in a sense, they have declared a war on the family. It is possible to see this both on digital platforms, on social media, and in television series.”
“Bans are not a solution, but…”
In his remarks, Yayman targeted LGBTI+ people through the issue of digitalisation, saying: “Transnational digital companies are, in a sense, also imposing a hegemonic culture.”
Claiming that social media has become “a hub for misbehavior" Yayman said:
“Therefore, from social media to television series, from digital platforms to global companies, they are unfortunately doing everything they can to ignore the issue of degendering, especially targeting the family institution, and to erode these values. As AK Party, we see that bans are not a solution, particularly regarding social media and digital networks. However, we also do not find the ‘laissez-faire’ approach to be correct. The family, children and women are our red lines.”
