Trans Blok: "This is an explicit hate crime. And as long as you remain silent, this violence will continue. Today, trans people in Tarlabaşı are trying to survive. Tomorrow, whose body will be next?"

Trans people once again targeted by violence in Tarlabaşı Kaos GL - News Portal for LGBTI+

Hate crimes against trans people in Tarlabaşı continue. Trans people were threatened and subjected to violence in the street by men armed with sticks. In a statement shared on its social media accounts, Trans Blok İstanbul drew attention to the fact that violence against trans people is an explicit hate crime and said:

“Trans people are being beaten in Tarlabaşı. They are being stabbed. They are being killed. And no one feels ashamed. In this country, a trans person’s body is treated as if it belongs to no one. It can be kicked in the street, dragged out of their home, humiliated at a police station. Because the perpetrator knows: nothing will happen. The violence in Tarlabaşı is not a coincidence. This is in plain sight. This is deliberate. This is violence carried out with protection. The police watch. The state remains silent. Society gets used to it. When another trans person is attacked, no one asks ‘why?’ Everyone looks for excuses: ‘It was night.’ ‘That neighbourhood.’ ‘They were trans anyway.’ These excuses smell of blood. This is not a matter of ‘intolerance.’ This is a matter of survival. This is an explicit hate crime. And as long as you remain silent, this violence will continue. Today, trans people in Tarlabaşı are trying to survive. Tomorrow, whose body will be next? Silence is not neutrality. Silence is complicity.”
