RTÜK Chair Mehmet Daniş targeted LGBTI+ people with what he called the “3A formula”, “mind, family, and morality”, saying, “We believe it is important to protect morality.”
Mehmet Daniş, Chair of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), spoke at the International Strategic Communication Summit held under the theme “Fragmentation in the International System: Crises, Narratives, and the Search for Order.”
In his speech, Daniş targeted LGBTI+ people. Claiming that the family is under threat, he said:
“At the core of our understanding of responsible broadcasting, which prioritizes public order, public morality, public health, and the public interest, lies a strong set of principles. In this framework, we base our approach on the 3A formula. The protection of the mind, that is, ensuring that objective information is conveyed to individuals and that individuals can access accurate, objective information. The protection of the family, unfortunately, when we consider what starts as debates on freedom and has now turned into large-scale campaigns on digital platforms, we can see how what is imposed as LGBT is further strengthening and how the family is actually under threat in this digital transformation. Third is the protection of morality. When we consider segments of society that are set against each other or turned into adversaries through disinformation, information pollution, and manipulation, we believe that protecting morality is also important.”
