Çanakkale Pride: “You will not be able to criminalize either our flag or us! Neither law nor ban, queers will live!”
On Thursday, November 6, in Çanakkale, police attacked the YÖK (Council of Higher Education) protest held in front of the Clock Tower upon the call of the Çanakkale Labor, Peace and Democracy components. At the beginning of the press statement, the police attempted to seize the rainbow flag in the area and tried to detain LGBTI+ activists.
Despite all efforts, police were not allowed to confiscate the flag; the slogans “Pride Is Born from Rebellion, Not Law” and “Long Live Life Despite Hate” were chanted.
Çanakkale Pride reacted to the attack with a statement posted on their social media accounts:
“During the YÖK protest in Çanakkale, police attacked LGBTI+ flags and queers. You will not be able to criminalize either our flag or us! Neither law nor ban, queerss will live!”
