The indictment alleges that Raun’s posts stating “I am pregnant” contained a derogatory context toward women; the social media influencer will stand trial on charges of “degrading a segment of the public.”
An indictment has been prepared against Turkish social media influencer Mika Raun, who was arrested after being targeted on social media. Raun will stand trial on charges of “publicly degrading a segment of the public based on social class, gender, and similar differences.”
The indictment alleges that expressions used in Raun’s posts targeted a section of society and were of a degrading nature.
According to a report by Cumhuriyet newspaper, the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office argues that the posts cannot be considered within the scope of individual expression and instead constitute an insult directed at a segment of society.
It is also stated that Raun’s posts claiming “I am pregnant” used pregnancy in a derogatory context toward women and led to differing reactions within society.
The indictment is currently under review by the Istanbul 35th Criminal Court of First Instance.
